Outside Activities

 “Wee Scotland”
Our young seekers of history will enjoy playing in the world of our Scottish ancestors.
  • The Glasgow Green Makeup Shop for face painting of butterflies and brave hearts!
  • The “Great Scots!” Metal Shop for making swords, shields and crowns and such.
  • The Not-so-heavy Athletic Games Arena for miniature “Highland competition” in:
             Wee Caber Toss  -  Toss the Sheep  -  Rubber Hatchet Throw  -  Stone Carrying  
             There may even be a “Kid’s Kilted-Mile” run!

 

“Not-so-Wee Scotland”
Our adults may wish to show their “manly strength,” so we have some more grown-up games as well!  Join a “friendly competition” of the:

Stone-Putters  -  Hammer Throwers  -  Sheaf Tossers

 

Musical Demonstrations

Pipe bands are a core element of Scottish games so, of course, we have them!  EPC member, Roger Kilpatrick, demonstrates his talent for playing the bagpipes throughout the afternoon. A true Scottish experience!

 

Anniversary Prayer Walk
Following the guide provided in the Prayer Walk Booklet, take a walk around the church stopping at various places for specific prayers.   Enjoy this time with God alone, as a family or in a group.

 

Heritage Baking Event: Pie Baking Contest and Decorated Cake Contest
Judging begins promptly at 5:15! Adults, youth and children are encouraged to enter this fun competition of old-time, home baked "art."   Don your apron and bake away -- a tasty, beautiful pie or a colorful, creative cake . . . or both!  Competition categories and details can be found on the church’s website or in the glass hallway.   After the competition, you may add your entry to the dessert table for dinner!

Inside Activities:

Easley Presbyterian Church Historical Display Museum **
Interesting and very old church relics are uncovered and set out for viewing.  Some on loan from members, some dug out from stored boxes and others simply taken from a tucked-away shelf.  All filled with tradition and legacy.   Spend time reading old church records, enjoying church archives and looking at photographs.  Learn the stories behind special worship symbols from our past and our present.  Also included for display are historical notes from the Presbyterian Women and from our church’s mission programs over the years.

** We invite anyone who has historical items, documents, photographs, written memoirs or such connected to our church or community and is willing to share them, please bring them by the church office or contact Nick Caldwell (855-6871) for inclusion in this display.  All items will be returned.

 

“Stroll Down Memory Lane” with pictures, descriptions and personal stories.
Sit for a bit, watch a well-documented slide show of Easley Presbyterian Church history, and hear detailed accounts of the growth and changes of the city and the church over the last one-hundred and twenty-five years . . . or so.   Also, Listen and learn as older members of our congregation share memories of their families and their early church years.    Oral history at its Best!

 

“What’s my Tartan?” by the Scottish Tartans Society
Historians from this Franklin, N.C. museum will be dressed in traditional Highland tartan kilts and will share Scottish heritage information as well as a detailed history of Highland Dress traditions.  Their museum gallery features kilts dating back to c. 1800 and tartan samples to c. 1725.  Ever wonder, "What is my Tartan?"  They can help you search then show you a sample of your clan, family and districts traditional dress.

 

 “The Best Pot Luck Dinner Ever!”
Imagine tables filled with delicious dishes of your favorite foods.  This good old-fashion, family-style eating is provided by all in attendance!   Start planning what you’re going to bring now because this Anniversary-worthy dinner has been 125 years in the making!   The Fellowship Committee is your host.  Drinks, paper products and utensils are provided. They will make sure this dinner starts with bounty and blessings!  Suggested items to bring:  meats, vegetables, salads and desserts.

 

Special Songs and Vespers
Following dinner we will end our special time together with a brief vespers service.
